AWARDS OVERVIEW
The Art of Emergence - Girls+Rock Ottawa Awards
The awards are empowering students who self-identify as women, LGBTQIA2S+, Black, Indigenous or as a member of a racialized group, to pursue careers in professional music. ArtHaus and Girls+ Rock Ottawa have committed $25,000 over five years to FCAD’s Professional Music program to fund two awards each year, each valued at $2,500. The first two awards will be issued to first-year students in fall 2021.
AWARD DETAILS
Girls+Rock Ottawa joined FCAD at the Studio as a member of the Music Den, FCAD's incubator for music entrepreneurs and innovators. Taking part in the inaugural Recovery Cohort, which was their pandemic response program designed to support entrepreneurs in rebuilding the creative industries post-Covid, it’s amazing to see their continued support in giving back to the creative community through this award.
“It is exciting to now have Girls+ Rock Ottawa in a position to offer support to the next generation of young musicians and entrepreneurs through the FCAD and Ryerson Community,” says Cormac McGee, Artist Manager at ArtHaus and Coordinator at the Music Den in the Transmedia Zone at FCAD.
“We are thrilled to work with ArtHaus and Girls+ Rock Ottawa to offer this award to incoming students,” says Noah Schwartz, interim-director of the professional music program and an assistant professor at the RTA School of Media at FCAD. “At the core of the professional music program is a focus on promoting diversity and equity for emerging artists, and it is important our students, faculty and staff represent the modern music community.”
